Research activites

Topics

My research work focuses on the modelling of mass transfers in heterogeneous and variably saturated porous media.
Different complementary axes are investigated :
- the development and optimization of numerical methods.
problems of equivalent parameters, time step management,...
- the development of laboratory or field experiments (in the context of OHGE, for example).
- the validation of calculation codes, direct and inverse estimation, on real and synthetic test cases.

Ongoing research

- Work on a laboratory tank (H:120cm x L:180cm x e:4cm) : imbibition drainage experiments, artificial rainfall simulations. Development of a photographic measurement technique.
- Work on the DCM degradation : instrumentation and monitoring of 2 laboratory aquifers in variably saturated conditions with groundwater beating (H:80cm x L:160cm x e:8cm).
- Instrumentation and monitoring of site in OHGE catchment (University funding) :
A portion of the Strengbach watershed was equipped with TDR probes (Campbell CS616), pressure sensors (Campbell 257) and temperature probes (Campbell 107) at different depths on a vertical profile. A Campbell CR1000 data-logger was installed and programmed to collect the measurements.
In parrallel, laboratory work for probe calibration and soil characterization was done as well as parameter estimation by reverse approaches. An infiltrometry experiment is also planned in connection with the CAPROZOVA project described below. This work is also part of the ANR Hydrocrizsto.
- CAPROZOVA project : characterization of vadose zone processes in different types of soils : from monitoring artificial experiments in a controlled environment to understanding phenomena in a natural environment. One of the objectives of this project is to effectively combine different techniques for measuring water content in the subsurface, including the TDR-type "intrusive" sensor approach and a geophysical approach.

- Modelling part :
The objective is to develop model that take into account different processes : evapotranspiration, infiltration, interception, runoff, etc.
The problem of parameter estimation is also integrated to improve modeling results.
As part of Behshad KOOHBOR’s thesis (directed by Marwan FAHS and of which I am co-supervisor), modelling work on density flow in fractured aquifers.

Teatching activities

I do my teachings at the IUT Louis Pasteur (Schiltigheim) in the Industrial Engineering and Maintenance department (DUT GIM) and in the Advanced Maintenance Techniques Professional Licence (LP TAM).
My teachings are about :
- operational safety ;
- the organization of maintenance methods ;
- advanced maintenance techniques : oil analysis, I.R. thermography, vibration analysis, etc.

Collective responsibilities

I was elected in January 2017, representing researchers/teacher-researchers on the LHyGeS Laboratory Council.
Since October 2012, I have been elected to the Board of Directors of the IUT Schiltigheim as an assitant professor.
Since 2009 and until september 2020, I took the head of the TAM professional degree at the IUT Schiltigheim. This training is given in alternation to 24 students.
I am also in charge of the follow-up of several apprentices as an IUT tutor.
